Le mura di Lucca sono il secondo maggior esempio in Europa di mura costruite secondo i principi della fortificazione alla moderna arrivate a noi completamente integre. L’attuale cerchia muraria, lunga circa 4km, è frutto dell’ultima campagna di ricostruzione del 1504 terminata solamente un secolo e mezzo dopo.
