Piazzale Michelangelo è il più famoso punto di osservazione del panorama cittadino, realizzato nel 1869 dall’architetto fiorentino Giuseppe Poggi per la celebrazione dell’artista e delle sue opere. Al centro della piazza si erige un monumento composto dalle copie di bronzo delle quattro allegorie delle cappelle medicee di S. Lorenzo e l’imponente David.
